There is a growing number of posts I have made to show numerous ideas of re-purposing and creative ways to make planters. Here we have an old pair of cowboy boots picked up cheaply at many yard sales or thrift stores, recycled house rain gutters that have been hung on a fence (note how they aren’t hung perfectly left to right but with a slight tilt – this gives the eye something more appealing to admire, and lastly we have an old boat (but you could use a canoe) which is ready to go after embedding it into the ground a ways and filling it with a rich soil for the garden in the Spring.

Tree Limb Coasters

This is a great idea and would make a great present for that special someone. Saw 1″ slices from a limb on band saw or circular table saw. It is important to make sure they are level from one side to another because if you did not have a level coaster a drink placed on it would in turn would not be leveled. Coat heavily with a gel stain and make sure it gets into all the nooks and crannies and then wipe off and let dry. When dry use polyurethane and make sure to get any bark also which will make the bark more durable with the wood. Let dry. You can leave this project alone at this point or here are some additional things you can do:
*Center a picture or child’s drawing to one side and decoupage it leaving one side alone so you can enjoy the wood
*Cover one side with a nicely colored felt to help protect from scratches to furniture
Wagon Garden
What a great use as a planter…. an old child’s wagon. It really opens up your mind to see such great usage of an old object that most would just throw away. What other type of objects…. both old and new…. that is readily thrown away can you think of that would make a great planter? Have you already up-cycled an item? Would love to see pics that I could share!
Hamburger Cupcakes
Baggy Butterflies
What a great idea to send your child to school with, or anywhere actually. You can even have your child help you decorate the wooden clothespins with markers or paint and then add the googly eyes and pipe cleaners. Fill each side with a little something special and clip in the middle. Would make a great surprise when your special someone opens their lunch bag and sees something special their child made for them also. I do recommend that if you are to use a dry on one side and a wet on another, as you see pictured, that you might want to tie it tight with a rubber band to keep the moisture on one side so your dry goodies won’t get damp. Another idea is to use these are party favors.
