Chocolate Nest Bowl

chocolate bowl nest serve party desert treat foil neat elegant melt

What a completely elegant way to serve strawberries or some other goodies to a special someone or at an elegant party. Take a solid bowl (glass or metal because plastic bowls will tend to shift and can crack chocolate) and use thin foil to cover the outside of the bowl. Melt chocolate or candy melt/almond bark and keep drizzling over foil to create a nesting look. Make sure to get enough so it will be strong and don’t forget to get the ridges of the bowl and the bottom. You can do a two-tone effect of white chocolate/dark chocolate or three if you added a medium colored chocolate. DO NOT FREEZE as this will make the chocolate very brittle. Air dry the chocolate at least eight hours. Gently turn bottom of your new bowl so it is sitting on its bottom. Pull foil away from glass/metal bowl and then remove glass/metal bowl. Then gently pull away from your chocolate bowl.  Slight breaks can be fixed with some patching (melt chocolate and hold a piece of foil on the underside of your chocolate bowl and drizzle to repair and hold for a few minutes. Let dry completely before you pull foil away. Your new bowl is ready – would make a great way to serve Mom or Dad a breakfast of fresh strawberries for Mother’s / Father’s Day. For Diabetic’s use sugar free chocolate and if you want to lower calories the rule of the darker the chocolate is the better.

There are two ways to do this:

1: Hang shower curtain rings from a clothes hanger and hang scarves through the shower curtain ring

2: Use white tape and make shower curtain rings as seen in the bottom row of the picture above taping each meeting to clothes hanger or shower curtain ring.

Rings can be found at a dollar store!

Outdoor Drink Holder From A Can

543708_429619690467194_251061827_nThoroughly clean can and dry — Paint or decoupage the outside of can with a unique design — Seal with polyurethane — You will need a (minimum size of) 18 inch galvanized bolt (about 2.50 at a hardware store) with a washer and nut. Puncture hole in bottom of can and push the bolt through from the inside of can until head in at the bottom. Under the can on the bolt add a washer and then secure the nut tightly. The longer bolt you use the better. You can also polyurethane the entire can, nut, washer and bolt once done to give a nice shiny presentation and to help prevent rust.

Baby Shower Diaper Wreath

IMG_5744What a great decoration/gift for a baby shower/Mom-To-Be. Start with a wire wreath frame from your local craft store. Use festive colored ribbons and tie diapers on so the opening is on the outside and tie bow. Add large festive ribbon bow to the top and make a hanger loop at the back top. Would make a great inexpensive decoration for a babies room also.

Tiered Lamp Shade Project

89e78f3230d1fe82b2c0137ced743e26What a great inexpensive way to build an awesome chandelier.

You will need:

Popsicle, craft sticks (a lot)

Hot glue gun

Hot glue gun sticks

3 round loops (large, medium, small)  (think embroidery circles)

Light kit

Light bulb

String

What to do:

With your largest loop you will need to tie three strings equally spaced apart. Join those three strings together above the top loop. This will tie to the electrical cord for the light fixture. The medium loop will need to be attached similarly to the largest and the smallest to the medium. Hot glue Popsicle sticks that have been died or painted a color of your choosing. We choose a nice blue dye that the sticks were soaked in for about ten minutes. The alternative is painting each stick (and each row could be a complimentary color or after you are completely done you can spray paint the whole thing in several very light coatings. You will need to assemble the light fixture as per its instructions. Do not use more than a 40 watt bulb. If the light fixture comes with a chain it makes this process easier to attach the light shade to the light fixture. if it doesn’t have a chain your tying skills be what makes the shade stay where you want it. Hang from ceiling.

Alternative: This could be made to fit a standing lamp that you could get from a thrift store/yard sale. The top of your new creation will start with the part of your lampshade that attaches to your lamp. The whole lamp could be spray painted to match, or use a complimentary color.
