Christmas Snowflake From Clothes Hangers

39b9b231ed17b154b6e2da2b6e003cc8This is such a cool decoration for Christmas. It is cheap so you can make a lot of them to really make an impact for the front of your home. There are different variations of it available but I like this one the best. Another aspect that I like about it, other then it being cheap and easy, is that it is already weatherproof.

You can find the video tutorial I used here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rru9qejrGMw

Some variations I found are:

Wrap with small sized lights.

Wrap with dollar store tinsel garland.

Spray paint silver, gold or some other color of your choice.

Spray polyurethane on it and while it is still wet sprinkle glitter on it. Make sure to do this over an old sheet tarp. It would get messy. Think iridescent or a color to coordinate with your home color or theme inspiration.

You could really go to town with these and have several hanging from the front of your home or from large trees. You could use one for each window in your home. Your total minimal investment would be $2.00 for 12 hangers fro your local discount department store and a package of small zip ties which I got twenty for $1.75. I reinforced the ones I made with extra zip ties here and there so I used plenty of them. Instead of the floral piece the guy in the video used I went to Michaels and got medium sized thin wood cutouts. I spray painted them on both sides and heavily coated them with polyurethane to protect them from the elements. I hot glued these on. You can use your imagination for the center including leaving them with nothing in the middle. I like them that way as well.

If you do this let me see them and I would be happy to share on this post. When submitting let me know what name to credit your design with.

Corner Succulent Planter Idea For Your Back Yard

What  really cool idle – these bricks were put together with mortar but you could certainly do this by just stacking and filling with appropriate soil for succulents.

Candle Flower Centerpiece

10952145_10153028184328080_5399231901281726970_nThis is such a great idea for your deck or patio and would make a real impact for table centerpieces. Pots can be painted any color and add a ribbon to match colors of flowers.

Start with a pot six inches larger then the one on the middle and make sure the one in the middle is big enough to have the flute fit inside the edge of the pot.

If you are going to use these for a festivity like a wedding (paint white, silver, wedding color). You will trim it out later with a bow to coordinate.

Fill the larger pot with garden topsoil to the point that if you put the smaller pot inside the edges meet all the way across. With the smaller pot inside nestled on the top soil add top soil to the outer pot and add pea gravel or sand to the middle pot.

Plant small plants in the rim with garden soil such as pansies or you could even use succulents.

Place votive candle center of the middle pot and add flute. Add a ribbon or paint decorative designs on outside of pot.

Small pots are not that expensive and candle flutes can sometimes be found at a dollar store. Make several for a wedding and give them away to guests that you wish to acknowledge. It will be a special gift they will enjoy.

Inspiration: Decorating with Air Plants By Jane Blanchard

airplants

Bring a little of the outdoors inside your home with air plants. Air plants, also known as tillandsias, absorb nutrients through their leaves, so there is no soil involved. Their striking sculptural forms and easy care make these plants a great addition to any home.plants3 plants2

In nature, the majority of air plants survive by using their roots to attach to other objects (mostly plants, rocks, or buildings). This means they can be put in a variety of containers, making them ideal for any style of decor. They can be grown both indoors or out and do an excellent job cleaning the air. Air plants need bright, but indirect light and good air circulation to thrive. Mist these plants with water every few days or soak every 7-10 days.plants6plants4

With over 500 species to choose from, and shapes ranging from the organic to the geometric, choosing your favorites is bound to be hard. Here are some ideas for incorporating air plants into your home.plants7plants5

Create a living wall. Hang air plants directly on the wall or get creative with a hanging structure to create a fantastic and gorgeous focal point in any room.

Milk Jug Snowman Outside Decoration

76431_477678165608782_426290372_nThis is so simple of an idea and you can get your child involved to help get a kick start to the holiday festivities. Thoroughly clean milk/orange juice container by letting soak overnight with water and about two tablespoons of bleach. Rinse and dry. While you are waiting for this use old buttons or paper cutouts for mouth, nose and eyes. Get creative and give the snowman earmuffs, eyeglasses or whatever other creative add-on you can give to provide your snowman with a personality. For the lights: If making three or more like in the picture use a string of lights that is 150 lights. Puncture a hole in the back of the jug and push lights until you have about forty in each jug. This will provide room for the snowman to be placed close but as you desire. You can also use a little sand or some rocks in the jug before you put the lights in them to hold them securely if wind should arise.
