Cany Cane Flower Floral Pot

What a great way to spruce up  a poinsettia or other flower pot inside your home. It is only temporary so it can even be made around a favorite pot in your home right now.

600043_298243373627302_1509361411_nPut a rubber band around the middle (from top to bottom) of the pot. Stick candy canes around under rubber band until you get the look in the picture. Tie a ribbon and then bow around the middle the of the candy canes. For a slightly more permanent design, hot glue the ribbon as you wrap it around the middle of the candy canes over the rubber band. Would make a great gift or decoration for a party, especially this time of year!

Gloved Halloween Trick-or-Treater Hand Outs or Party Favors

What a great inexpensive way to create a special hand out to trick-or-treaters or to have for party favors. When buying the gloves, if you buy the gloves that are meant for medical or sterile reasons only use wrapped candies. If you want to use unwrapped candies but gloves that are meant to be used for sterile food preparations instead. Smarties for the finger work well and to top off with a spider or small decoration or even a ribbon would work. Maybe a little red dribble here and there would work out well also – Just don’t scare the wee little ones with too much gore. Halloween is already frightening for small ones as it is.

Wire Spool End Table

What a great idea for a dorm or a country rustic home interior style. These are usually thrown away from companies that use cable (cable companies, electricians) and make a great strong piece of furniture. First it does need to be cleaned very well with soap and hot water and a hard bristle scrub brush to remove grime and dust. Dry. Sand away any stamped names or images as those will be hard to cover. Cover with one coat of primer to seal off the wood and allow paint to cover and not soak into the raw wood. Paint your favorite color (or colors). Add dowels that are minimum of 1/2 inch thick (but thicker can give a more bold appearance). Paint out the dowels and spool one last time to ensure good coverage. Coat with polyurethane to seal. On the bottom add rolling casters or other re-purposed “feet”. If you want a little cleaner look you could add a top just a little larger in diameter then the spool top.

Recycled Bike Rim Pot Hanger

What a great way to recycle an old bike tire. Holes are already along the sides to insert hooks into or over that can be purchased at any hardware store along with simple chains to hang. Pictured it is hung by a rod and hook system but chains are easier to attach. Make sure the hook that this is all attached to is deeply embedded into a rafter to avoid a terrible accident. Use this for lighter weight pans or use as a utensil hanger. If you want to use this for heavier pots and pans remove spokes and cut a 1″ thick piece of wood the diameter of the rim (use the rim as a template) stain or paint then polyurethane and attach to rim. This will give a much stronger rack that you can hang heavier items on. I think this look great…. can anyone else come up with another usage for an old bike rim? If you can share in the comments:

Popcorn For Packing

Directly from the UPS:

Pop Popcorn. Then Pack. That’s right. UPSer Mimi Millegass, a preload clerk in Myrtle Beach, S.C., says, “You have to pack the popcorn down really tight. When the package has arrived safely at its destination, the used popcorn can be thrown outside to feed birds and other animals.” —— I never thought about it but it is an obvious material to pack and is super eco friendly…. those Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap are terrible for the environment. I might suggest to make sure the recipient is OK with this and that the item being shipped is securely packed inside a sealed bag or plastic of some kind.
