During the recent years knitting has become more and more popular not only in clothes fashion but also as a way of decorating your home. Knitting brings warmth and cosiness in a place. Here are a few ideas and advices on how to most properly use it in your dwelling.

  • Knitting and your furniture

Knitting is a wonderful way to renovate your old furniture and even to make new one. Knitted tools have become more and more popular recently and they are a wonderful addition to your children’s room. For your bedroom or hall sofa you can use knitted coverings instead of the traditional ones. Knitting is a perfect solution if your furniture is a bit old. Cover it with knitting but have in mind that it is more difficult to clean

If you use knitting instead of traditional carpet for your rooms you will be surprised of the great change you will immediately notice. A knitted carpet on your bedroom floor will not only look romantic and cosy but will also warm your feet when you get up and step on it. It looks both stylish and beautiful.

  • Use Knitting In Your Home DecorationKnitting in your home accessories

Knitting is a wonderful means of creating specific atmosphere in your place. The secret here is to use it not everywhere but in the tiny but important details. You can even use knitting to create seasonal home decoration. Knitted flowers are suitable for spring while sea themes are a perfect choice for summer. Leaves made of coloured yarn are a wonderful addition for your autumn decoration and knitted snowflakes are the best choice for winter.

A few more ideas of how to use knitting in your home decoration:

  1. Make tiny knitted “socks” for your chairs’ and tables’ legs. They will look fashionable and will prevent the carpet from scratches.
  2. Knitted glass pads are also a smart decision
  3. You can use yarn to make pillow cases for the vases – this type of decoration is very suitable for the cold winter months.
  4. A couple of colored balls of yarn look extremely fashionable in a tall, glass vase.
  5. For Christmas you can make a wreath of colored yarn using traditional festive colors – red, green and white.

How to properly take care of the knitting?

You may store it in moving boxes or if you have purchased it carefully examine the label from the store as it will explain the best way to take care of it. If there is no label or you are the one who have created it, find out more about the yarn it is made of so that you can know how to properly wash and iron it.

Some knitting should be washed in cool water only while others – in hot one. Wash them well and use special fabric softener to keep the knitting soft for as long as possible.

Easter Deviled Eggs

Ingredients

10 hard boiled eggs
food coloring
1 tsp vinegar for each color you are using
water
½ cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip or half of each (I use Miracle Whip)

Remove the shells from the hard boiled eggs and slice each egg in half.
Remove the yolks from the egg halves and place in a bowl. Set the yolks aside.
Get enough glasses or mugs for the number of colors you want to use. Fill the mugs or glasses ⅔ of the way full with cold water.
Add 3 drops of desired food coloring along with 1 tsp vinegar to each mug or cup.
Place egg whites in the mugs and allow to sit in the food coloring until desired color is reached. I could fit 3 egg whites in each of my mugs at a time.
Remove whites from dye and drain on a plate lined with a couple of paper towels.
Take the reserved yolks and mash them with a fork. Then mix in the ½ cup mayonnaise with the mashed yolk.
Pipe or spoon the yolk mix into the colored egg whites. Makes 20 deviled egg halves.

Magic Jelly Beans

555114_478480305534822_1906957858_nAs the weather gets nicer outside I am dieing to get out and garden. I found this great little planting treat on Face Book on $5-10 Dollar Meals- Cheap Eats. Grab a handful of Jelly Beans and plant them in the garden with your children. Have them water them thoroughly and talk to them about planting and how something that starts from seeds can grow and provide us with food to eat. Do tell them though that these Jelly Beans are a fun magical experiment and that if they plant them and nourish them carefully something might grow that they will love. In a couple of days after you see them watering and caring for their magical beans – when they are not looking – take the beans out and “plant” a huge lollipop. They learn something about the process of gardening, doing a little work pays off and may want to help more in the garden.

Easter Egg Art

250840_320452681377490_1342109119_nThis has always fascinated me and I have tried to do it myself personally but the tediousness makes it so very difficult. I guess for now I will have to do with adoring these creations from afar. These are created by blowing out a contents of an eggshell by drilling a hole at the end of the egg at each of its tips. The egg must then be dried. A variety of eggshells can be used: ostrich, emu, rhea, goose, chicken, and a variety of others. These can even be purchased dried and ready to use from some internet outlets. The usage of a Dremel (or preferably a high speed drill such as a dentist tool) . You must also use a face mask and a ventilating system to avoid getting eggshell dust up into your respiratory system which can make you very ill. The stands that they use are just as intricately created by making something from scratch, using antique candle holders, and other unique holders. I have only tried using a Dremel but would love to get my hands on a high speed drill it would be great to create something so special.

A Few Unusual Ideas For Decorating Your Home by Guest Writer Ella Andrews

If you are not keen on traditional ways of home decorating you can always go for some nontraditional ways of doing that. We can assure you that your friends are going to love your place. As you know most people prefer to stick to traditional ways of making their dwellings more comfortable and cosy. That is why an innovative approach to the matter is always welcome. The following lines will give you a few ideas on how to decorate the rooms in your place in an unconventional way so that you can make it a great place to live in and to pleasantly surprise your guests.

A Few Unusual Ideas For Decorating Your Home4Decorate the bedroom

People are used to thinking that bedrooms as a rule should all look in the same way – a bed, a chair and that is. But this is not obligatory. You can always think of some clever ways to renovate the room. Many people place their mattresses directly on the floor so that they can be closer to the ground. This is an interesting idea that you can make even more unconventional. Hide the mattress under a colourful tent made of a couple of veils. This will turn your bedroom into a real fairytale in Oriental style. Another interesting solution for your bedroom is to use a mannequin where you can put the clothes you are about to wear on the next day. Or you can simply use different combinations of clothes and colours to decorate it and use it to brighten your room mood.

A Few Unusual Ideas For Decorating Your Home2Decorate the kitchen

This is the most difficult place to decorate as actually you do not have a great choice on what exactly to decorate. You cannot place a flowerpot on your oven after all. However, you can still experimentalise and play with the kitchen lockers and shelves. What you can do is replace or relocate the doors of the lockers with small curtains in colourful and bright prints. You can choose flower prints, dots or anything else you like that makes you feel good.  But you can go even further – you can use the box of your old TV to store your collection of books.

Decorate the bathroom

Instead of buying new shower curtains you can use a couple of towels to serve you with the very same purpose. Or you can alternate a shower curtain with a towel. This decoration looks quite interesting. Its only disadvantage is that towels are more difficult to get dry but it is worth it.

A Few Unusual Ideas For Decorating Your Home3Decorate your garden

If you are living in a house you will have to think of a few ways to make your garden look more cosy and beautiful. You can use a ladder on which to place flowerpots or an old bicycle where to hang baskets with flowers. You can even paint a construction cart in bright colours and fill it with flowers.
