Banana Ice Cream – Yum

943611_326776824120524_1807379374_nThis looks so good I just had to try it……. and let me tell you this is so good! I have actually dabbled with different add ins like:

~ 1 cup frozen strawberry yogurt/1 cup banana flavored yogurt

~1/2 cup Nutella

~I cup frozen strawberries

~1 cup nuts (I have tried 1 cup mixed, 1 cup almonds and 1 cup peanuts to 2 bananas – and these were chilled)

Of course this was not all at once. So far everything was really good and I really liked it. It was a very good for you snack that I did not have to feel like I was being bad while eating it. All ingredients were frozen or chilled to keep the “ice cream” cold. For the nuts I added nuts from the baking section – these are what you eat when you are eating healthy because they are unsalted – the type made to put into cookies and desserts and not the ones you buy they are sugared or salted because they are really unhealthy for you.

What type of ingredients do you think you would want to add to this?

Banana Benefits – Who Knew?

574445_10201366067102616_1099512451_n

I have always loved bananas and eat them regularly. My favorite has always been to slice them and place into a bowl, add orange juice to cover and add a little sugar. Tastes good and gives the body a boost off goodness to start the day off with. These good benefits for bananas just makes eating them that much sweeter. Breakfast is often overlooked and anyone can grab one of these and eat it on the way to work or school. What I like also about bananas is that they are fairly cheap and you can buy them at the beginning of your week with some ready to eat and some still green so you have enough to make your full week.

A Very Cool Sunburn Relief

With the temperatures soaring these days it is always to be better prepared for a family member to get a bad sunburn. I came across this idea and wanted to share it with you – frozen aloe vera. Now I will swear to the use of aloe vera on any burn but the thought of getting a sunburn, and then placing a frozen block of it  on a burn sounds like pure pleasure. Now I do not recommend using the large regular ice cubes, but rather use small sometimes decorative ice cube shapes like is pictured. This is not for the pleasure of looking at a shape but to not use too much aloe vera as it is expensive. When you are done filling your tray remember to keep your aloe vera bottle in the fridge.

Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter / Nutella Healthy Snack

bananna chocolate peanut butter frozen snack healthyI saw these and my mouth watered. I often find that I want a nice tasty not overly sweet (and in the summer cold) snack. I have tried these and they are sooooo goood! They are rather simple to make and there are some variations. I will talk to you about the basic creation like is pictured and then give you some dynamite options to switch them up.

Slice bananas into 1/2 inch slices. Keep them consistent. Wipe a dollop (you can judge amount of a lot or a little based on preference but don’t make it too thick) of peanut butter (no preservatives and no sugar added – get as organic as you can) on one side and sandwich with the other slice of banana. You will need to freeze these to get them cold. While they are getting cold use a chocolate melting pot (if you are lucky enough to have one – I want one) or use a double broiler (two pots one smaller than the other with the big one having water to boil that you will set the small pot down into to melt chocolate in) to melt chocolate. If you are tight on a budget use candy melts but I often can find dark chocolate chip bags at a dollar store and that is your best bet. Take out the bananas/peanut butter treats from the freezer (you don’t want these frozen hard as a rock because the chocolate will drip right off). If it takes you a long time to get chocolate melted instead of freezer use the fridge. Now roll the banana/peanut butter treats in the melted chocolate and put them on wax paper lined COLD cookie sheets. When you get a tray of them made stick them in the freezer.

OPTIONS:

-Instead of peanut butter use a hazelnut spread from Jiffy or Nutella

-After placing dollop of peanut butter/hazelnut spread on one slice of banana stick slices of nuts (almonds, peanuts, walnut) into spread and seal with the other slice of banana.

-I used dark chocolate but by all means use white, milk or one of the flavored chocolates like mint, peppermint etc.

-After placing dollop of peanut butter/hazelnut spread on one slice of banana stick crushed candies (peppermints, red hots) into spread and seal with the other slice of banana.

-Decorate the outside with a drizzle of a different type of chocolate or melted candies to go along with a party theme or special occasion.

-Keep in the fridge or in the freezer after preparation – delicious both ways.

I hope you enjoy these delicious scrumptious (can be made in a healthy way) treats as much as I do. I enjoy going to the freezer when I get the munchies and pull one of these guys out and enjoy it knowing that they are really not that bad for me.

Home Made Ice Pack

936571_196232707200470_1954803542_nThis is a simple way to make ice packs for the freezer that will never harden but gets very very cold. It is the simple formula of 3 part water to 1 part rubbing alcohol. In a gallon bag you would put 1 cup rubbing alcohol to three cups water in a quart bag you would add 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol to 1 1/2 cups water. Double bag! When you use it for one application wash the outside bag or remove and replace it so it is always cold. The rubbing alcohol will keep the water from freezing which makes this ice pack palatable to mold over your body. Keep more than one in the freezer so you can alternate. Replace water/alcohol mixture minimally once a year.
