You will see that the reaction is a fizzy, frothy one, that should bubble away at the blockage with a combination of carbonated action, acid and heat, which will speed up the reactions that the other two are using against the blockage. The hope is that the fizzing of the baking soda will whirl the acid in the vinegar around, as it breaks down the blockage. The pressure of the water sitting on top of it will push the blockage down, and you should find that the sink is cleared fairly easily. If not then it may be time to get the pipe cleaners out to see if there is something hard stuck in there.
