Log Slices For A Hardwood Floor
I am absolutely in love with these floors. They are so artistic and creative. I especially love the lower one on the right hand side because the slices overlap each other and it butts up to the rest of the floors seamlessly. Having a design element in a home that is both artistic and no where near a norm for a home is a complete conversation starter. I could also see this done in a backyard for a pathway or to use instead of decking/porch. I have always been inspired to love elements that are very natural and to see nature enter a home like this is great.
Happy Fathers Day Childs Handprint Tree
Create by computer using clip art or paint by hand a tree on white paper. Paint your child’s hands with poster paint or watercolor paint from a tube. Use different colors and variations of colors that appear on a tree. (Blues, greens aqua, yellows) You can also use a stamp pad but the colors won’t be as pronounced. Make imprints overlapping one another. In this picture we used one hand print from each child in the family. We used clip art and printed this out on thick “cardboard/card stock” white paper. We also printed it out with Happy Father’s Day – and it would look nice if you fathomed a little wording such as a poem at the bottom. Give enough time to dry and frame your artwork. It is a little something special that can be hung in your home or used in his office.
Doll House Book Shelf
This conversion of a wooden bookshelf to a doll house will create a time of fun for your special little girl. This design is a little intricate – but it could be made fairly easy and made so that the added components could be removed later to go back to just a book shelf. Picket fence can be added to the bottom, dividers can be added to in between the shelves to divide them into room. Here they removed the top and added a pitched roof with new tongue and groove back. They cut out squares in the sides and inserted premade squares that are divided to look like windows. The back and insides could be painted out to look like little rooms with wall paper (decorated scrapbook pages) paint with stencils or sponge paintings. How about a little metal for the walls in the kitchen. The top pitch (if you make one) could be covered in large tongue depressors (available at craft stores).
Review: Segmation – A Digital Way To Paint
I have to say I was most impressed by a site I recently stumbled upon and thought I would tell you more about it. I tried the free version and knew I was hooked. Now mind you I am a grown man and have an ability to draw portraiture in almost exact likeness (or so I am told) but I found myself stuck there doodling along. I painted step-by-step until I had completed a piece of artwork. I was most impressed. I found my mind working hard and became engrossed in this process which was a good thing this week since we lost a family member this week. Before I knew it I had passed about twenty minutes and ended with a surprised smile on my face.

It is just a site that made me have twenty minutes of fun and happiness and of a nice moment of relaxation. Segmation digital color by number is a relatively new program and is a small, upstart family business. They call this “the art of peaceful imaging” and it truly is a Zen experience for all ages. I initially purchased the affordable program this last fall and use it daily. I enjoy it to unwind after a busy day with work and family pressures. My five year old just loves it! Recently, I have begun to take it into preschool with me several times a week and my three and four years olds are growing more proficient with number recognition (and taking turns) every day. The privilege of my laptop in the classroom is also advancing their technology and fine motor skills. There are so many great features in the Segmation program! Different setting allow you to switch modes and play one number at a time or without any numbers at all in case one would like to choose where to place color. You can reset each picture to begin again, so the children tend not to fight if the one they wanted has been taken over by a classmate or sibling. My favorite feature, though, is the direct link that takes you to a shop with a fairly abundant selection of art to please any palette. The Classics are available, such as Vincent van Gogh, Michelangelo, Albrecht Durer, Rubens, and Manet. More modern works are offered, like Paul Klee or Gustav Klimt.
There are fun holiday packs and gorgeous scenic photography offered, too. I feel that all I am missing, as a customer, is the availability of fun and funky illustrations more representative of today’s art movements and attractive to a broader range of youth and young adult tastes.
