Thanksgiving Treat Snacks

1395281_677472558937450_1020748483_nYou will need Oreos, chocolate chips (for melting), Flipz chocolate covered pretzels, candy corn, royal icing and black gel food coloring

-sort pretzels to pull all the whole ones and put them in a triangle fashion just like the picture shows so they are ready to go – you will need to act fast and a second pair of hands will be very helpful because you will have to do this before the chocolate cools

-put the candy corn (or what you will use for the nose to one side to have easy access

-melt chocolate or candy melt in a candy melting pot or follow instructions for microwave. Try the richness of using real chocolate – once you are successful you will realize how easy (and better tasting) it is and will never go back to using candy melts again

-dip and roll the Oreo so all sides are covered and place one on top of each triangle of pretzels and push down

-quickly push down the candy corn

-pipe on white royal icing to form whites of eyes

-Pipe on black of eyes

Nutter Butter Halloween Bats

1148808_397183767049694_1390882462_nDip Nutter Butters into melted chocolate or chill Nutter Butters and dip into candy shell (the stuff you buy for ice cream that goes on as a liquid but hardens as a candy shell. Drag with a toothpick little ridges at the base of the wings. Place a dot of melted chocolate at the top and stick a brown M&M onto it. Place two dots of melted chocolate at the top of the M&M and drag (with a toothpick) up to create two ears. Pipe two dots of colored icing (powdered sugar with a few drops of food coloring just to make it almost runny). Put two drops of melted chocolate for the center of eyes.

Delicious treat for a Halloween party or for an added bonus to a treat bag. If you love Nutter Butters like i do this will surely be a scary little treat you will want to make.

Red, White and Blue Parfait

480910_482141241859021_634181953_nMake these in small clear orange juice containers and chill ahead of time before your party starts. Use unflavored Greek yogurt and red jello and layer unit you are about two-thirds to the top. You can add blueberries to the top (make sure they are washed and dried before adding). Before you serve add a whipped topping. You could even add a few red, white and blue sprinkles to the top.

Festive Red, White and Blue Table Setting

972172_482585448481267_554677665_nGo overboard with red, white and blue for your table settings – and do so on a budget. Use canning jars or mix and match vases and jars from thrift stores and make a simple arrangement like these that have real red, white and blue blossoms in them with darkly tinted water to really pull your eyes into the arrangement. Don’t forget to mix up red, white and blue plates, bowls, napkins and table cloths. As pictured use edible red white and blue as well – this looks great and everyone will want a taste at the same time.

Colored Lemon Slices

lemon party color food dyeWhat an interesting idea for your tea, your child’s sweet drink or party. Fill a small bowl with water enough to cover the number of slices of lemon to be colored and add liquid food coloring drop until it is slightly darker than desired color. Remember the color will be mixed with the natural color of the lemon so it ill not be perfect. Place lemon slices in the bowl of colored water and make sure each slice goes in individually to ensure proper coloring. Do this for each color you water lemons to be dyed to.

You can also use Kool-Aid unsweetened packages to add color in the same way above except to make sure the Kool-Aid is completely diluted first.

Use this in punch bowls, tea, Kool-Aid, lemonade etc.
