Valentines Day Table Spread

550253_154771884675058_1691459005_nWhat a great table spread – for a sweetheart – or a party with lots of guests. Just little cake fancifuls on the most of elegant dinnerware. Decorated with colorful pastels to match the different dinnerware designs. Add some lace and roses to make a complete setup.

Wire Spool End Table

What a great idea for a dorm or a country rustic home interior style. These are usually thrown away from companies that use cable (cable companies, electricians) and make a great strong piece of furniture. First it does need to be cleaned very well with soap and hot water and a hard bristle scrub brush to remove grime and dust. Dry. Sand away any stamped names or images as those will be hard to cover. Cover with one coat of primer to seal off the wood and allow paint to cover and not soak into the raw wood. Paint your favorite color (or colors). Add dowels that are minimum of 1/2 inch thick (but thicker can give a more bold appearance). Paint out the dowels and spool one last time to ensure good coverage. Coat with polyurethane to seal. On the bottom add rolling casters or other re-purposed “feet”. If you want a little cleaner look you could add a top just a little larger in diameter then the spool top.

  • Creatology™ Foam Sheet – Black
  • Creatology™ Foam Sheet – Purple
  • Creatology™ Foam Sheet – Green

  • Creatology™ Foam Sheet – Orange

Instructions:
  1. Cut an orange piece of foam into 1” strips lengthwise. Set aside.
  2. Cut the black foam sheet into 1” strips width-wise (top to bottom). Lay the vertical strips side by side in front of you. Weave an orange strip horizontally through at the top of the black strips, and glue them all together. Allow to dry.
  3. Repeat step 2 until all the orange strips are in place. Apply glue only at the beginning and end of each strip. The final strip gets glued along the entire outside edge.
  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 with the other colors of foam sheets. Be sure to always cut the orange sheets lengthwise, and the contrast color vertically.
  5. Trace 4 of each bone onto the white foam sheets, and cut out.
  6. Glue bone pieces onto placemats as seen in photo. They will go where the fork, knife and spoon go.
